by Dan Krehbiel

A few weeks ago, I went to Washington, D.C. to find out how the Global Justice movement was addressing the situation resulting from Sept. 11. I attended plenary sessions, discussions, an inter-faith worship service, and one of the rallies and marches against war and racism, all coordinated under the Global Justice movement.

TOP NEWS: EDITORIALS: FELLOW COLLEGIAN RESPONDS

Bethel Grad Responds to patriotic student

by Lt. Brian J. Bowman

I have to admit being perplexed and, somewhat sadly, amused by Katy June-Friesen's well intentioned but misguided column in the October online Collegian. She pledges allegiance to Woody Guthrie, a great but complex American who not only hated poverty and hunger-as June-Friesen noted-but fascism, oppression and totalitarianism. Guthrie volunteered for military duty in World War II, serving in both the Merchant Marine and the Army.

I think Guthrie wouldn't much care for today's brand of terrorists, and the Taliban regime-whose treatment of women is frightening-probably wouldn't have pleased him any more than Mussolini or Hitler did.
